It is untraceable how and when noodles came to Myanmar. One thing we are confident is we all enjoy noodles, and they are embedded deeply into our culture as our staple or comfort food. The fascinating thing about Myanmar’s noodle culture is the diverse array of noodle cooking recipes that are found every part of Myanmar; from western coastal beaches of Rakhine to the southern islands in Mergui Archipelago, the hills in the north and the east and throughout the central lowlands.
Myanmar’s noodles come from different ingredients (such as rice, wheat or even peas) and come in different shapes - thin, flat, round, thick and cut noodles. The preparation and presentation vary too in the form of noodle soup, noodle salad, fried noodle or many others. While some noodle recipes are unique to Myanmar, others descended from and are influenced heavily by the noodle recipes of neighboring countries like China, Thailand, Laos and those of Malay peninsula.
